Whenever I start looking at graduate schools (for the bajillionth time mind you, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything) I always consider the school's basketball program. Why you ask? Well, I prefer attending basketball games to attending football games. Basketball happens in a climate controlled environment. In Florida, football happens where it's hot. Our arena is in the 70s, our football games are in the upper 80s to low 90s.
By no means am I saying I dislike football. I love football! I just prefer to watch it from my couch where it is cool and I don't sweat and can flip back and forth between several games.
Basketball is different though. It's a quicker game, there isn't much "lull" like there is in football, and (like I stated previously) IT HAPPENS INSIDE. Big selling point.
Obviously you have your big, traditional powerhouses that people either love or hate. You know, the Dukes, the North Carolinas, the Syracuses. These are the teams you always see in the Top 25, even when they may not totally deserve it (kinda like Texas in football).
Then we get to the underdogs. These are the teams I like to cheer for. You probably don't even recognize this logo! It's the Belmont Bruins' logo. I love Belmont. I cheer for them every game. I might even cheer for them against bigger schools who I have liked for longer (but definitely don't like more). Butler sometimes falls into this category, and BYU fell into it last year when they had Jimmer and actually did halfway decently!
Finally, my school. I will always cheer for my school no matter how far behind they are or how terribly they are playing. We aren't half bad this year (10-3, if you're wondering), but even when we are I still love going to the games and cheering!
There's also that thing where you cheer for teams who beat you so that your loss to them doesn't look as bad. That's why I want Harvard to win the championship this year if we can't.
